Carbon Footprint

  • Sharebar

Calculating your carbon footprint is a simple way to figure out how much carbon, one of
the major greenhouse gasses attributed to human activity, you emitted on a daily basis.

There are some simple calculations you can do to figure out your impact, for example:

The U.S. Department of Energy, for example, estimates that one gallon of
unleaded gas emits 19.56 pounds of carbon dioxide into the atmosphere

The DOE also estimates that the average kilowatt hour of electricity used in the
U.S. creates 1.297 pounds of CO2 emissions.

The Nature Conservancy estimates that a 5,000 mile airplane trip or a 2,500 mile
car trip each produce one ton of carbon.

Some organizations have online carbon footprint calculators so that you can become
informed about how your decisions impact the planet.
